I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one, but it was a beautiful story of finding your voice and learning to speak out for yourself. If you are a fan of grumpy x sunshine, workplace romance and forced proximity, you will enjoy this ride.

This book is a RIDE in the best way! Simone had me stressed, pressed and yelling at my Kindle, but she also made me take a long reflective look in the mirror about my own avoidant and emotionally unavailable habits. This story is a beautiful reflection of humans just trying to figure it out, as stumbly as it may be lol.

My thoughts

This was indeed “a love letter to Black women who forget their magic. A battle cry for the ones who stayed too long.” B’s message from the author brought tears to my eyes and it perfectly encapsulates the essence of this journey between Maleek and Angelica. And not just them but the journey of the people they love and ones they would rather watch fall off a cliff. One of the things that struck me most was how well the author captures the experience of grieving the life you thought you would have while living in the very real opposite reality. I expected to ooh and swoon, but I did not expect to cackle, holler and laugh very much out loud at the shenaningans and hella whitty one liners.

And no lie my girl is THICC lol but well worth it. I already know I will be running this one back.
